| Do you grow trees? | | Are they fruit trees or ornamentals? Is there one that is your favorite? I got my favorite tree as a seedling, given away free at a Lawn, Home, and Garden Show. My friend and I took our kids. Each child was given a free seedling. I had two, but failed to keep one alive when we moved. This tree is about twenty three years old, it is a blue spruce. I have lots of other trees, some were here, some I planted, some came as volunteers, but that one remains my favorite. | |
| | Nice Weather? | | Ths sun is shining today. The sky is clear and blue. But, the wind is a bit on the chilly side. My husband's idea of a warm day differs from what I consider warm. If the wind weren't so cold, yes it would be a warm day. He dresses in shorts and a short sleeved shirt. I am in long pants, short sleeved shirt and a sweater. He keeps commenting on how I should be outside enjoying the sunny day. I do pop out occasionally, but once I get chilled, I am back inside. I don't tolerate chilly weather as well as he does. For me, a perfect day (weather wise) is one that is 70-75 F (20-23 C) degrees, drifting clouds in the sky. An occasional light breeze is okay. No humidity of course. What is the description of the perfect weather to spend a day outdoors? | |
| | Now You Can Breath Clean Air No Matter Where You Live | | It is common knowledge that the air people breathe nowadays is far from being ideal. With the presence of numerous factories, smoke belching vehicles, cigarette smokers and even accidental forest fires, the quality of air has decreased greatly. This scenario has resulted to various health problems affecting the primarily the respiratory systems of people of all ages and from all walks of life.Is there still hope of reversing this scenario? Are we doomed to die gasping for fresh air and praying for a healthier environment? Thankfully, the answer is filled with hope. While we can’t go back to the clean air that our ancestors had centuries ago, we can still have a better environment by doing some essential actions. Here are some of the ways that we can still breathe clean air no matter where we live.Inside your home, you can already do your part. You may start by participating in the local utility’s energy conservation programs. You can inquire for tips on how to go about this. If they don’t have a set program yet, encourage them to start one. You must also unplug items that are not being used often, such as the DVD player or the oven. They still draw electricity even if you... | |
| | Has nostalgia hit you lately? | | Other day, some friends and I were discussing tea parties. One friend was talking about how she used to have these little tea parties with her friend, and how something happened at one party and her little tea set was all broken but a few pieces. This started me down the memory trail of life.I used to have tea parties, too, but with my dolls. There weren’t any girls near us when I was real little with which to have the tea parties. And my siblings were brothers, with one being older and the younger one almost five years younger than I was. We had streetlights on our little town road. So at night, several of us, including a cousin, my younger brother, and a friend would meet under the streetlights to shoot marbles. I was the only girl in the bunch, but I knew how to play marbles! We would have probably stayed out half the night if our parents or my cousin’s grandparents hadn’t been calling for us to come in to the house. We either played under the one at the neighbor’s house across the street from my house or at the light pole at our grandparents. Either way, we never got in enough marble games and now we are grown.I was definitely part tomboy when I was growing up. Not... | |
| | I Found This Really Snooty, And Could Have Been Dangerous!! | | Okay I solemnly promise this will be the last discussion pertaining to the tree business I've been ranting about lately....promise! And this isn't a rant, but something I found really snooty and the potential for danger...that is to my computer. If you've been following my rants about the hatchet job that was recently done in my area of the beautiful trees, done by a so called Tree Expert company (yeah sure)...you'll know how outraged I was by it all since any kind of major pruning of trees at this time of the year is a definite no-no as it weakens the trees and puts them into shock. The result was that yes, one of the beautiful trees right outside my bedroom window came crashing down just last night So I haven't been idle and have been contacting every known organization known to mankind about this voicing my opinion. I've emailed the Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Parks and Recreation, emailed news media helplines...I even was able to track down the tree company itself and emailed them--while I was "diplomatic" with them, the tree company that is, I was basically suggesting they go back to forestry school and learn how to properly prune trees and as... | |
| | Is your home surrounded by trees? | | My home is surrounded by Oak trees, I have great appreciations for the beauty that they provide, for the shade they provide, and for the oxygen that they produce...Many people will build new homes and will have the entire home site bulldozed off...every single tree taken down...then they have their home built and a couple of little tree sprigs may be planted...My question is why not leave some of the big mature shade trees...most dozer operators are very talented about their profession and could easily do this...So, is your house surrounded by trees OR are there just a few OR none at all??tment of Parks and Recreation, emailed news media helplines...I even was able to track down the tree company itself and emailed them--while I was "diplomatic" with them, the tree company that is, I was basically suggesting they go back to forestry school and learn how to properly prune trees and as to when to do so.Anyway, in my email, I got a response supposedly from a member of the Kissena Park Civic Association--I say supposedly, since I DID NOT contact them...so like how did this person get my email? And why would I contact them as they... | |
