| I just "found" a mature pecan tree and peach tree on my property! | | I was out watering my newly-planted bushes, trees and flowers when I noticed "things" growing on two mature trees outside. One of them I actually thought was an overgrown weed!!! I have a pecan tree near the beginning of our driveway and a peach tree (get this!) right outside our bedroom window!!! I was going to cut down the "overgrown weed" because it keeps brushing against the screen when it's windy outside. I was looking at it from the bedroom window when I saw what looked like a baby peach growing on it. I went outside and this thing is loaded with them!!! I can't imagine anyone actually planting a peach tree one foot away from the house so maybe a squirrel buried a peach pit there and forgot about it.I had to look up the other tree. I thought it was walnut at first, but they are round and smooth when unripe. These had four 'sections'. Yep, it's a pecan tree!Have you moved to a new place and "discovered" things like this growing on your property that you didn't know about? It's so exciting! Well, if you love gardening like I do, it is. If you have, what did you find? Have you eaten any... | |
| | Peach tree is doing nicely | | I was out checking out my apple tree, peach tree, and other things that I have planted outside yesterday. We have about 75-100 peaches on our tree right now. They are a little bit bigger than a golf ball right now. Do you have any peach trees? Do you like peaches? | |

| | If you were to be a tree.. which tree would you choose and why? | | This is no rocket science,'pass or fail', kind of project. I thought about it suddenly and had to jump here to ask you all. A tree is an glorious and awesome structure. Our planet cannot survive without trees that supply us so much oxygen..
So.. therefore.. should you need to become a tree.. what'll it be!!AND of course you will tell us exactly why.. right?[em]wink[/em]
| | Do you have fruit trees in your yard? | | Do you have fruit trees or nut trees in your yard and do you actually eat off of them?I have a pear tree, a mulberry bush and a walnut tree in my yard. I definitely eat the pears, they are so delicious. I usually pick several times in the fall and hand them out to the kids in the neighborhood and keep the rest for us, family and friends. The last of the ripened fruit before winter I leave for the critters.I can rarely get anything off the mulberry bush, the birds always beat me to them! The most I get to see of the mulberrys is the purple bird droppings on my car!I leave the walnuts alone. The squirrels like them but the tree isn't quite old enough to produce good edible walnuts yet. In a couple of years they should be really good to eat.
I'm thinking about planting an apple tree. I used to have one at the house where I grew up and I loved those apples, right off the tree, in pies, apple butter, etc. I miss that tree.
| | What Can We Make With White Peaches? | | My friend's peach tree branches are bowing or is that "boughing" down.[em]lol[/em] The fruit is absolutely delicious but there are way too many for all of us to eat. So I need a little bit of help and see what my MyLot friends can do with white peaches. Canning? Jams? Pies? Tell me about your favorite peach recipe. Or what fruit trees do you guys have in your garden?[em]cool[/em] | |
| | | First deer I've seen on our property all year! | | I was sitting here myLotting when my husband said there was a deer out front. I hadn't seen any this year so I got excited. Of course, I said, "I hope it's not eating anything I planted!" She wasn't. A beautiful doe was across the road, nibbling on some roadside plants.I managed to get some photos of her and thought I'd share with you. Do you have deer wander onto your property? If so, have they done any damage? I almost lost a peach tree from deer damage last year. They are irritating, but so beautiful and graceful! | |
| | Fresh Fruit | | When I was a kid, we always had several different kinds of fruit trees and bushes. There was the apple tree, peach tree, plum tree, and sour cherry trees. There were also raspbery and blueberry bushes. I miss the days of all of that fresh fruit right in our yard! Now, I am still able to enjoy fresh blueberries! My mother-in-law has several blueberry bushes in her back yard. Just the other day, my husband and I were visiting and we were checking out all of the flowers all over the yard. One of the blueberry bushes was completely covered in little white flowers! The other bushes had quite a few too. That means there should be lots of blueberries. Strange that the flowers are white and blend in but the blueberries stand out so much on the bush, isnt it?Have you ever had fruit trees or bushes of your own? What is your favorite fruit to eat freshly picked? | |
| | Peaches and Apples | | I just made the first homemade apple sauce I have made in about 16 years! Don't ask why so long...it's a long story. Anyway, I was thinking about all the things I can still make with the apples I have here. My daughter has an apple tree and a peach tree and every year this fruit just pretty much goes to waste. I didn't realize until this year that her trees produced so much. Nothing was ever done to keep the worms away so she never really did much with them, if anything. I think next year I am going to make arrangements to have as much from her apple and peach trees as I can manage to get. So, my question is this: What all can I do with the peaches? I don't want to deal with canning them. I want to make things and freeze them. For instance, I know I can make peach pie, peach cobbler, peach crisp. Is there such a thing as peach sauce made like apple sauce? My mom always made apple sauce in large quantities and froze it so we had it all year long. Also, she made apple cobbler, without baking it, and froze it so it would be available to bake all year long. I would like to do things like this with the peaches too. Also, other apple ideas are welcome. Okay all you mylot... | |
