Bees in my garden!
I was busy pruning my crotons in my front garden when something seems terribly wrong! My index finger hurts so much! when I inspected closely, there are several bees feasting on my finger and some started to sting me in the face! I ran inside the house and apply vinegar to the bee stings. I can not believe that those bees whom I ignored in my yellow vine started building their hives in the front garden! I sprayed insecticides right away so that my kids will not experience that pain of being stung by these bees! I did the spraying with a heavy heart because bees (and even some insects) are becoming less in population. I have watched a documentary on bees at Nat Geo and there is this virus that attacked bees so that they are disappearing so fast. Bees help pollinate flowering trees and if they disappear, our food chain will be affected.I wish the bees in my garden will just stay on the yellow vine (located at the back of the house) because they visit its flowers every morning. I hate using insecticides because they are harmful even to us humans. Any ideas how I will keep them away from the front garden?
Thank goodness it is finally here!
Spring! This has been an unusually difficult winter so it seems like I've been waiting forever for Spring to get here. And it has arrived at last. We drove through the hills of WV last week and enjoyed the beautiful flowering trees along the hills. And I just love the lacy look of the trees that are just beginning to leaf. Blue sky and sunshine really cheered me. One place we stopped had these beautiful tulips. I just had to share them. What do you like best about Spring where you live?
UM experts say climate change is affecting Maine's ecosystem
UM experts say climate change is affecting Maine's ecosystem Scientists and wildlife experts agree that Maine’s ecosystem is changing, and the insects, mammals and trees are giving us early warning signals that the changes are happening quickly. The Maine of the future will feature warmer winters, less snow cover and increased rain and sleet, Paul Mayewski, director of the University of Maine’s Climate Change Institute, said during a recent interview. As the Atlantic Ocean begins to warm, Maine will see more hurricane and tropical storm activity, which will change the face of the state’s rugged coastline, and its cherished moose could disappear completely. "Over the next few decades, the climate in Maine will become much more like northern Massachusetts," Mayewski said. Whatever the terminology used to describe the phenomenon — global warming or climate change — scientists say the process already is under way and is tangible, and no one will have to wait for centuries to see the impact. ä Recently, some financial institutions in Maine began requiring termite inspections of houses before approving home loans. Scientists say the appearance of termites this far north is one of...
Can you help me identify this flowering tree???
My neighbor has this beautiful flowering tree in her yard. She cannot tell me what it is since her husband planted it years ago. It flowers these bright, beatiful orange flowers every year!! Can you help me identify it. I live in Northern Wisconsin if that helps you. I have attached a picture. Thanks!!!
Is anyone else sick of the weather in and around Ohio?
Hello Everyone! I am so tired of this endless cold and rain/sleet/snow days here in Ohio. A couple weeks ago it was in the 60s and 70s for a few days which was beautiful. My flowers started to come up and my flowering trees started to bud, then it got bitter cold again and they all died!! I'm so ready for spring to finally get here. How about you?
What tree do you find beautiful
Spring is a beautiful time of year with all the flowers blooming and tree's budding. My favortie tree is either the dogwood tree or the weeping willow. They both are beautiful in theri own way.I think the weeping willow is a romantic type of tree. Thanks fro any thoughts....
Looking out my kitchen window...
I just wanted to share with everyone the beauty I see when I look out my kitchen window at this time of year. My backyard is one of the biggest reasons I chose to buy this house. I love all my flowering trees. The Bradford Pears have lost most of their flowers but the blooming cherry tree in this picture is just right. That big brown glob of branches on the archway in a week or so will be absolutely beautiful. It's my wisteria tree/ vine. I love it. The bad thing though (like the blooming cherry tree) is the flowers don't last very long:( I took the picture at the wrong time of day - too sunny. I had a feeling the other day I better take it then or I'd miss my chance. I was right. That night it rained so hard and the drops where so big that it knocked most of the beautiful petals off my blooming cherry tree. I also took it through the screen 'cause I couldn't take the screen off the window and I really wanted to capture the actual look that I see when I look out the window.
Is is spring time already?
The trees are turning green and quite a lot of the flowering trees are budding out. We have weather in the upper 60's and low 70's. It just seems too early this year! I love spring weather alright, but it makes me worry about summer coming too soon with the hot weather that I don't get along with! LOL
Has anyone ever ordered/signed up with this place?
I've heard of them before a long time ago, it's The National Arbor Day Foundation? Guess this would be a question for US people. It costs either $10 or 15.00 dollars, and they send you 10 flowering trees, specific for your area, at the time of year they should be planted. You get a year membership with purchase discounts, the 10 flowering trees (6-12 inches tall) that are guaranteed to grow or replaced, & a tree magazine subscription. I'm just curious if anyone's ever ordered from them or had experience with them. Sounds like a pretty good deal, and if it's a scam, only out 10.00 lol. But I think they've been around awhile, I seem to recall stuff in the mail from them when I was younger. Here's a link with their website. Any info anyone???? Thanks!http://www.arborday.org/
Whay is your favorite flower?
